First Week of Rehearsals

Highlights: The Ks began to learn their song with Veronica and practiced movement and some of their  lines with Garry. We will send your child’s lines home sometime this week.

Thanks to Meghan Nemecheck and Di Baker our sample taco lunch for the Ks last Wednesday was a great success. Most of the class gobbled up their tacos and a bunch of them asked for more.

Notes: Xiuhtezcatl Martinez visited us during All-school Meeting on Friday. This passionate  18-year-old indigenous climate activist is a hip-hop artist and powerful voice on the front lines of a global, youth-led environmental movement.  He recently published his first book, We Rise: The Earth Guardians Guide to Building a Movement That Restores the Planet, and is touring with a new hip hop album. Much to our surprise he spoke for half an hour, then shared one of hip-hop pieces, talked for another ten minutes, performed another hip-hop piece, and answered a few questions. This was a long time for 5 and six-year olds to listen and to sit still.  I was impressed that they did. Please ask your child what he/she thought about Xiuhtezcatl Martinez’s message and let me know what he/she said.

Play Notes: After watching the Ks interact, the play team assigned roles and Garry gave out some of the lines. The dwarfs are the following Little Happies Gabby & Drew, Little Sleepies Ava Marie & Louisa, Little Sneezies Luke and Addy, Little Dopeys Tanim and Zoe, Little Bashfuls Cece & Noah, Little Grumpies Celeste & Nevo, Doc-Rowan, Younger Snow White-Elise. Before Gray travels to Japan, he’ll either sub for someone who is absent or if everyone is present, Garry will assign him to a group.

Please keep your eye out for information about The Week at the Wheeler which is April 30-May 4th.

Homework: The Ks decided it would be fun to make their own dwarf houses. Please help your child think of either natural or recycled materials he/she could use to make it. On the homework page, set aside for him/her to draw a picture and list the materials he/she will need. If he/she has some of the materials, send them in a labelled bag. Please return everything by Wednesday.
