Gearing up for the big show!

Happy weekend, everyone!

Boy oh boy, we are FULL IN with our final rehearsals for the Spring Musical. Today’s crawl-through went so smoothly – everyone knows their lines, most people know their cue lines, and it was such a treat to be able to watch the rest of the scenes. I know we’re a little bit biased, but The Jungle Book is going to be AWESOME!

READING UPDATE:

  • Your first grade readers have been learning how to infer by making their characters talk and think more.
  • Your second grade readers have been working on their written summary skills. Independently finishing a book, writing the main events, and writing their reflection and interpretation of the story has been taking up most of their reading time this week.

WRITING UPDATE:

  • All first and second graders participated this week in our second installment of our whole-school, cross-aged, Everybody Writes Everybody Shares. Our focus was opinion writing, and each 1-2 author prepared an opinion piece about one character from The Jungle Book and an award that they felt that character deserved. Each 1-2 author shared his or her writing with a small group of K-8 students, listened to their group members’ writing samples, offered compliments or comments on others’ writing, and received compliments or comments on their own writing. Be sure to ask your young author about this experience!

MATH UPDATE:

  • Your first grade mathematicians are moving back into a number sense unit after finishing up a super fun data unit.
  • Your second grade mathematicians are building their place value knowledge, working addition problems with three digit numbers, and tackling comparison addition problems.

WHEELER REMINDERS:

  • Our 1-2 schedule next week…
    • There is no up-valley bus at all this week!!!
    • Monday. All 1-2 students arrive at the Wheeler’s stage door at 8:00am. We will ride the bus back to school at 10:45am. We will remain at school that afternoon. Kids are either picked up at ACS by 2:50pm (as designated by your forms that you turned in!), or they ride the bus back up to the Wheeler. Kids then are either picked up at the Wheeler at 2:50pm or they ride the down-valley bus to a pre-designated stop.

      • Thursday night performance. 1-2 students must report backstage in the Green Room at 7:45pm. Do not drop off your child before 7:45pm, as we are not allowed in the Green Room until Intermission. If you are watching the first act with your child, then he or she can come to the Green Room at Intermission (your kiddo will know how to get there!). After the show, we will deliver your kiddo to you in the lobby (where the bar is!). We have some street clothes changing, some costume organizing, and some Green Room cleaning to do as a class after the performance, so you can hang out in the lobby and await your jungle creature’s arrival.
    • Friday. There is no school. Give your performer some well-earned down time.
