What’s Happenin’

Science –

Geology rocks!  Last week started a science unit to learn more about Earth’s geologic treasures.  This week we explored rocks and minerals as geologists. They described each rock or mineral by color, texture, and luster.  Then, checked if it was magnetic, acidic (with drops of vinegar), and it’s hardness (using a scale of fingernail, penny, nail).  Next week we will discover the 3 different rock types and how they are classified.

Research Teams –

We have reached the second bend of our non-fiction reading unit, which is particularly exciting because the students have begun working in research teams to study a natural disaster. Ask your child what natural disaster they are studying and who their team is.

Author’s Visit –

We had a special visit today from author Kat Kronenberg. She wrote a wonderful picture book titled, Dream Big, and her next one, Love Big, is in the works. Kat presented her book at our All School Meeting and then visited our writing classes to talk about the writing process. Kids were asking about her website, so here it is

Conferences –

If you haven’t yet, please sign up for a student-led conference on March 22nd or 23rd. Kids are preparing their portfolios of work and reflecting on their growth. Soon they will practice how they will lead a conference. This is a big moment for your kids and a special time together. The parents role is to observe growth through your child’s eyes.  Sign up here- Spring Conference Sign-Up If you have any questions after the conference that would be better to talk about without your child present please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
