Hello K Families! January 4, 2017
I hope you all had a wonderful break. It was great to see your kids today back at school. They all looked so big! Thanks for all of your wonderful holiday wishes and gifts, and for your amazing support in 2016. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful kindergarten community.
As promised to your children, we will begin our new unit this week on “space”. It ties in nicely with the new-year, as we will learn about what makes a year on Earth (orbit) and what makes a day (rotation). We will integrate the theme into math by learning to tell time and exploring three-dimensional shapes. We will also try and have some closure on the “me” unit by hanging our timelines up, and continuing to learn a song about circulation with Ted Frisbee that we will hopefully perform this month at an all school meeting.
In the next few weeks I will be working on portfolios and sending them home for a second round of adding work and reflecting with your children. In preparation for this I could definitely use some help sorting photos. Please let me know if you are interested/willing to help out.
We are scheduled to take a day trip to Aspen on January 18th. We will depart in the morning for AVES at Hallam Lake and then hopefully head over to the new Pitkin County Library. If you are interested in coming on the trip please let me know.
Also if you have any paper tubes (paper towels, toilet paper, wrapping paper) please send them in, as we will be making rockets next week.
