Dear CCS Parents,
After a month at CCS it has become very apparent that the CCS parent community contributes a great deal to the success and well-being of our students and our school. Thank you.
In this post, I will share information about ways parents can continue the strong tradition of engagement and offer new opportunities.
Attend Back to School Night – Thursday, October 5th 6:30 pm
First and foremost, please attend back to school night. Back to School Night is designed to help parents learn more about learning expectations and their student’s daily experience. This year we will meet in the central area and then divide into learning centers. Also, staff and parents will be on hand to answer any questions that you may have about PE, art, music, Spanish, the CCS garden, mindfulness and parent volunteer opportunities.
Attend a Coffee Chat with Sam – First Fridays starting October 6th, 8:15-9:15 am
Informal coffee chats with the principal provide an opportunity for parents to get to know the principal, to ask questions, and to offer suggestions. Likewise, these coffee chats provide an opportunity for the principal to develop stronger relationships, to understand the CCS experience better, and to be an informed school leader. Please share your voice, your mind, your story, and your vision.
Attend a CCS Village Meeting – Every 3rd Wednesday starting October 18th, 5:30-6:30 pm
At CCS we strongly believe that parent involvement is the key to continuous improvement and a great education. Therefore, parents are encouraged to participate in Village Meetings to build relationships with other CCS parents and to contribute to school activities and fundraising efforts. Please consider attending a village meeting this year. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. – Helen Keller
Attend a CCS Advisory Council Meeting – Thursday, October 19th 6-7pm.
All public schools in Colorado are required to have an advisory accountability committee. This committee, sometimes called a school accountability committee, meets quarterly, at a minimum, to discuss school improvement and to review school finances. Please email Sam or Sandra if you are interested in contributing to the advisory council.
Attend or Contribute to the All School Meeting
All school meetings occur every Friday from 11:00-11:45 and provide an opportunity for all CCS students to interact with members of their community, to celebrate the successes of their schoolmates, and to learn, collectively, through inspirational, creative, and relevant presentations. If you have a talent or body of knowledge that you would like to share, please let us know. We’d love for you to attend or to participate in an All School Meeting.
Attend or Contribute to El Tioga
Each Friday a learning center or teacher will host an El Tioga to raise money for outdoor education and special programs. Most often, students are involved in the creation of hearty, healthy, and community-building meals. Attending or contributing to an El Tioga meal is a great way to connect with school personnel and CCS students and to taste the organically grown produce from the CCS garden! Please continue to contribute and join us for a great meal soon!
Volunteer to Support a CCS Choice
Several times a year, CSS offers choices to students. Choice provides students an opportunity to focus on lifelong learning in a multiage setting. Through choices students, teachers, and community leaders develop relationships outside the typical classroom setting, helping to enhance community ties. Choice also provides an alternative venue for student success, through the experiential development of skills, opportunities for service, and exposure to and practice of creative endeavors. Please let us know if you are interested in supporting a choice. Our first choice is offered 10/27 and 11/3. We will also offer choice days in December and January.
Continue to attend parent-teacher conferences, to volunteer for outdoor education trips and other learning center needs, and to support school-wide fundraising efforts. The kids, the staff, the school and our community benefit from your input, your support, and your commitment to the exceptional education offered at CCS.
Again, thank you! We are stronger when we work together.
