Spring Outdoor Ed, Caterpillars and Chrysallises

We can hardly believe that it’s mid-May already. Whew! Thanks to all the parents who helped with our last El Tioga of the year and to all those who have helped with previous El Tiogas. The money from El Tioga helps with the costs of Outdoor Ed and other special activities. We truly appreciate your help.

Outdoor Ed – the basics (see the email packet from May 4 for details):

Pack check is on Monday. We will leave around noon on Wednesday. First Graders will return to school around 1:30 on Thursday. Second Graders will spend Thursday night and then return to school around 1:30 on Friday. We’re looking forward to an inspiring hands-on learning experience in a truly spectacular setting. Please call or email us with any questions or concerns.

We’ve had a busy week. Ask your child about:

  • Alliteration
  • How to use Duck Lips to count syallables
  • How to climb through a card
  • Frass
  • Houdini the Amazing Caterpillar
  • Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly
  • The final molt into a chrysallis
  • All School Capture the Flag
The caterpillars finally hung in a J shape to prepare for the final molt into a chrysalis.
Checking out the chrysalises in the butterfly net. It will take about two weeks for our painted ladies to emerge.
We had a Solar Roller demonstration at All School Meeting.
How is it possible to crawl through a playing card?
Second Graders measuring items in nature.

Many, many thanks for all the generous and thoughtful gifts we received for Teacher Appreciation Day. We feel spoiled.
