State of the Forest

State of the Forest

The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies compiles data through various biological indexes every year, and publishes the annual findings in their State of the Forest Report. The document is full of ecological information, as well as graphs, charts, and various visual representations of data over time. In this first month, we will use this report to study climate, insect, fire, and human use data to understand the effects of each on forest health. Our unit will culminate with a field trip up Independence Pass at the end of September in which we will conduct forest surveys, and participate in a tree planting project in cooperation with the Independence Pass Foundation.
