At Carbondale Community School we believe a community school is defined by strong relationships and ongoing collaboration. This means we need real partnerships and openness. Partnerships allow us to better respond to the hopes and dreams of the community. And, openness allows for frequent dialogue, transparency, and shared learning and problem-solving.
Join the CCS School Accountability Committee **Every 2nd Tuesday starting October 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm
All public schools in Colorado are required to have a school accountability committee. This committee meets quarterly, at a minimum. The committee allows our school’s stakeholders the opportunity to weigh in on school finances, the programs we offer, and the strategies we use to improve. Please email Sam or Sandra if you are interested in being a part of the committee. All School Accountability Committee meetings are open to all staff, parents or community members. Please feel free to attend any or all!
Attend a CCS Village Meeting **Once a month – days and times will be communicated in our Weekly News
Parent connections are integral to the community school approach. Therefore, parents are encouraged to participate in Village Meetings to build relationships with other CCS parents, to develop a greater understanding of CCS, and to help us meet our mission. Please consider attending a village meeting this year.
Come Chat With Ricardo, Our Community School Coordinator **Any Wednesday or Thursday, and Friday 12:30 – 3:00
Informal chats with Ricardo provide an opportunity for parents to share ideas and to ask questions. Likewise, these 1:1 chats provide an opportunity for the community school coordinator to understand your CCS experience better and to assist with continuous improvement. Please email or call Ricardo to set up a time to meet.
Attend or Contribute to the All School Meeting
All school meetings occur every Friday from 11:00-11:45 and provide an opportunity for all CCS students to interact with members of their community, to celebrate the successes of their schoolmates, and to learn, collectively, through inspirational, creative, and relevant presentations. If you have a talent or body of knowledge that you would like to share, please let us know. We’d love for you to attend or to participate in an All School Meeting.
Attend or Contribute to El Tioga
Each Friday a learning center or teacher will host an El Tioga to raise money for outdoor education and special programs. Most often, students are involved in the creation of hearty, healthy, and community-building meals. Attending or contributing to an El Tioga meal is a great way to connect with school personnel and CCS students and to taste the organically grown produce from the CCS garden! Please continue to contribute and join us for a great meal soon!
Lead or Support a CCS Choice
Several Fridays a year, CSS offers choices to students. Choice provides students an opportunity to focus on lifelong learning in a multiage setting. Through choices students, teachers, and community leaders develop relationships outside the typical classroom setting, helping to enhance community ties. Choice also provides an alternative venue for student success, through the experiential development of skills, opportunities for service, and exposure to and practice of creative endeavors. Please let us know if you are interested in supporting a choice.
Please continue to attend parent-teacher conferences, to volunteer for outdoor education trips and other learning center needs, and to support school-wide fundraising efforts.
