This past week was a blast! Our week started out ruff…not rough, but ruff!
New Project: Students tried to decipher clues leading to our next PBL Project. Clues included Taryn wearing her mom’s veterinarian scrubs, reading books about shelter animals, and a visit by a special rescued dog…Hazel’s dog, Stella! We discovered that our next PBL project is to learn about animal shelters and their purpose. We got started right away by researching what types of supplies animal shelters need to take care of the animals. We decided to hold a pet supply drive to benefit Colorado Animal Rescue (CARE). Students formed three action groups to promote our pet supply drive. One group made posters. Another created flyers to go home with all CCS students, and a third wrote a script and presented our cause at All School Meeting. We will be accepting donations until March 6th. This coming week we will embark on the second phase of our project…a tour of CARE with real pet rescue experts. We will learn all there is to know about what CARE does and why it is important. The project that goes along with our tour is a persuasive writing project wherein we will write paragraphs to inform the public about the mission of CARE, and persuade the public to donate to CARE and adopt animals from animal shelters when possible. Additionally, we will use green screen technology to create a commercial of sorts that we will likely share with Colorado animal rescue and possibly in other arenas. As with many project-based learning projects, this project is organic, meaning that parts of it are left for the kids to discover and create.
Mystery Readers: We also welcomed many wonderful Mystery Readers this week for I LOVE TO READ MONTH! Special thanks to Julie Jenkins, Sara Johnstone, Monika Kincade, Hilary Brock, Alyson (Rowynn’s aunt!), and Keeley (Angie’s daughter). If you or a family member would like to be a Mystery Reader this month please let us know. We still have times available! You can bring your own favorite story or we can choose one for you.
Valentine’s Day: The kids LOVED our Valentine’s Day celebration. Shout out to all the hard work your children did writing everyone’s names on the cards! The card exchange was full of smiles, laughter, and the reading of names. (Sneaking in that reading!!) The CAFE was a wonderful addition to our card exchange. Thanks to the parents who brought fruit, muffins, hot cocoa, and even a snow cone machine. What fun!
100th Day is TUESDAY! Don’t forget that 100th day projects are DUE this Tuesday the 18th. (The 100th day of school). These need to be done at home. If you need inspiration, check out this website: https://tipjunkie.com/ideas-for-100th-day-of-school/ Additionally, students may dress up like they are 100 years old for the 100th day.
